Measuring and Examining Innovation in Philippine Business and Industry

Posted by:

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) conducted a research study on how to measure and examine innovation in Philippine business and industry, hence, the 2015 Survey of Innovation Activities. This is in response to the clamor of private and government firms, and among others, to improve their performance in their respective field of business.

The study showed that the most firms are focused on process innovation. Furthermore, the effects of innovation were observed to be primarily customer-driven. Results also indicated that cost factor is the most important barrier to innovation.

PIDS then reiterated the importance to improve information dissemination about programs and platforms that will assist firms in enhancing their innovation activities which will later on strengthen the Philippine Business and Industry. As such, networking, linkages, and collaboration among the government, industry associations, universities, and research institutions are crucial in achieving this.
