Major Field Practice on Citrus Orange Production in Ashkelon, Israel

Posted by:

Major Field Practice is among the requirements of the course Bachelor of Science in Agriculture of the University of Southern Mindanao. In this line, Kenne Cabrillos, a Horticulture major and a scholar of the Agricultural Training Institute’s (ATI) Young Agriculture Farmers Program, did his major field practice at Mehadrin Tnuport Export Ashqelon in Israel. The farm specializes in citrus orange production.

During the field practice, Cabarillos was exposed to various activities such as pruning, pest management, heat protection, iron application, freeze protection, weeding, irrigation and fertilization, removal of damaged/rotten fruit, harvesting, postharvest and marketing, among others. He was also able to conduct a research project as a student of Ruppin Academic Center. It was a group study on the “Effects of Herbicides Application on the Fertility of Avocado Trees.”

The different technologies and management practices on citrus orange that the trainee acquired from the major field practice could be further explored and applied in the Philippines to improve our production.
