Vegetarian Awareness Month Showcases Benefits of Plant-based Diet

This October, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) joins the world in celebrating Vegetarian Awareness Month and supports Filipino consumers in exploring plant-based options for diet and nutrition.

Vegetarian Awareness Month is observed in different countries every year, as it kicks off with World Vegetarian Day on October 1 and ends with World Vegan Day on November 1. World Vegetarian Day was founded in 1977 by the North American Vegetarian Society and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978.

Urban Agri Beneficiaries Trained on Vegetable Seed Production

DILIMAN, Quezon City—To capacitate the beneficiaries of the “Plant, Plant, Plant” program in producing quality seeds of vegetables, legumes, and herbs and spices, the Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), conducted a three-day training on vegetable seed production.

Many Filipinos have become plant aficionados during the quarantine, but lifestyle blogger Marjorie Pineda-Uy, or “Marj” to her friends, started urban farming way back before it became the big thing that it is today.

“Sometime in 2011, I was invited to visit Costales Nature Farms in Majayjay, Laguna. Out of curiosity, I accepted the invitation without any expectations, except to experience a ‘buhay probinsya’ kind of weekend,” Marj recalled.

The trip eventually turned out to be an educational experience for her, even playing a huge part in her lifestyle change.

DILIMAN, Quezon City—The Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) has partnered with the Department of Education-Schools Division Office of Quezon City (DepEd-SDO-QC) to implement an integrated urban agriculture project.

The partnership was sealed through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by officials of the ATI and DepEd-SDO-QC. This is in support to the DA’s “Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat (ALPAS) Laban sa COVID-19” or “Plant, Plant, Plant” Program.

ATI Joins Urban Agri Info Drive in Caloocan

CALOOCAN CITY—To further support the move of community churches to go into urban agriculture, especially in this time of a pandemic, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) participated in the Agri-tek Eskwela Sessions COVEG 2020 “Gulayamanan” of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Caloocan.

Following the launch of a local urban agriculture project, the Institute provided technical assistance during the community church’s urban farming information drive.
