Extending Learning and Kindness: Learning Site Cooperators Offer Assistance in the Time of COVID-19

Cooperators of Learning Sites for Agriculture (LSAs) and Extension Service Providers (ESPs) of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) are cultivating seeds of compassion as they help their communities in their own ways during the global pandemic.

Since the alarming spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country, the whole of Luzon, including the entire Metro Manila, and some parts of Visayas and Mindanao have been placed in an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Solano Strives for Improved Corn Productivity

A first class municipality with around 60,000 people, Solano, Nueva Vizcaya is a premier town which serves as the commercial center in the province. Despite this, the local government unit (LGU) continues to improve its agricultural productivity, particularly its corn industry.

With commitment to contribute to the country’s overall development, Solano shapes its agricultural activities to support poverty alleviation, social equity, food security, and sustainable growth through rational use of resources, protection from unfair competition, and people empowerment.

Molave’s Journey to Advance Corn Industry

Situated in the northeastern part of Zamboanga del Sur, surrounded by vast land and water resources, the Municipality of Molave continues to provide significant contributions in the overall agricultural productivity in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Molave is a first class municipality producing various crops, including corn which is the second most important crop in the country. Its local government unit (LGU) was able to execute strategies to double its productivity for quality corn and further expand good agricultural practices (GAP) in the municipality.

Butuan’s Best Foot Forward

Since 2015, Butuan has garnered recognition four times in the National Quality Corn Achievers Awards of the Department of Agriculture. But the laurels are not stopping the local government and its people to continue their mission to bring about sufficient production of local corn grains towards food security.

Dumalag's Vision for a More Resilient Corn Industry

A fourth class town in the province of Capiz, Dumalag has operationalized a number of interventions to bring its Food on the Table Program further. With the support of its local chief
executive and agriculture leaders, the municipality was able to formulate more comprehensive programs and projects which are systematized, financially supported, and properly implemented for the benefit of its farmers. The ultimate goal is to have fruitful harvest at the end of each cropping
season.

With the challenges that extension workers and farmers face, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) continues to explore various strategies to improve its efforts as the extension and training arm of the Department of Agriculture. In over 30 years, the ATI has celebrated various successes and learned from the lessons during hard times.
