Young people are running away from farming now. Everyone is going to the city and it seems like nobody likes to work with the soil anymore. Ironically, farming provides food on the table. However, we are convinced with numbers and figures, since we need money to survive. What if you can earn P2 million a year just by tilling the soil, will it ring a bell?

In succeeding months, more organized backyard livestock and poultry farms will rise in the countryside as the Department of Agriculture (DA) implements an expanded livestock and poultry production and livelihood project.
“With this initiative, we aim to help farm families recover from the loss of jobs and unemployment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and those whose hogs and poultry stocks were depopulated due to the African Swine Fever or avian influenza (bird flu), respectively,” said Agriculture Secretary William Dar.
LOS BAÑOS, Laguna – Farm School owners under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Program and representatives from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist of Laguna and Quezon were trained on Rice Crop Manager (RCM) Advisory Service (RAS).
The “Regional Training of Trainers on Rice Crop Manager (RCM) Advisory Service (RAS)” was intended to create a pool of trainers to handle basic trainings on the use of RCM, including generation of its recommendation.
BANGA, AKLAN – ATI Region 6 hosts its first batch of flexible learning modality with conduct of Training of Trainers on the Production of High-quality Inbred Rice and Seeds, and Farm Mechanization that runs from September 14-25, 2020. The first phase was conducted via Zoom Platform that focused more on lectures and micro teaching while the second phase was done face-to-face that carried out the hands-on activities held at Dreamer’s Valley Camp & Resort, Buenavista, Tigbauan, Iloilo.

Rice is considered as a staple food in Southeast Asian countries including the Philippines. This makes farmers a vital part of society. They farm to provide food for the people. This includes Rosemarie Centina, also known as “Tita Mayeth”, a 61-year-old farmer who hails from Luisiana, Laguna.
Early beginnings
Tita Mayeth is the eldest in a brood of 10 and, as a child, her parents taught her how to farm. She and two of her siblings ventured into rice farming as it was through this that her youngest siblings were able to finish college.
