The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) MIMAROPA in coordination with the Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) in Calatrava, Romblon evaluated the proposed FITS Kiosks of Brgy. Pangulo, Brgy. San Roque, and Brgy. Balogo.
Together with Ms. Grace Ellen F. Culpa, FITS Manager/Agricultural Technologist of FITS-Calatrava, the Technical Working Group (TWG) conducted an ocular inspection of the said barangays. The TWG interviewed their barangay captains and asked some questions based on the factors such as physical resource requirements, fixtures, and data/information.
Ms. Culpa shared that the said barangays already complied with all the documents and requirements needed for the FITS Kiosk establishment.
“Handang-handa na po ang ating mga bagong apply na FITS Kiosks. Kung makakapasa at mabibigyan ng pondo, sa tingin ko po ay maayos nilang magampanan ang kanilang mga responsibilidad bilang satellite office ng FITS-Calatrava,” she explained.
Ms. Juliet Sixon, Chairman of Brgy. Balogo said that with the support of her barangay council members, she will secure additional funding for the continuous operation of the FITS Kiosk. Also, she assured that under the supervision of the barangay’s agriculture committee, the FITS Kiosk will now be ready to accommodate farmers who are willing to learn about farming.
“Ang aming barangay ay tiyak na makakatulong sa ating mga magsasaka upang madagdagan ang kanilang kaalaman tungkol sa pagsasaka. Kaya gusto din namin na magkaroon ng FITS Kiosk dahil hangad namin na magkaroon ng pagsasanay dito sa aming lugar,” she added.
Once approved, FITS-Calatrava will now have six (6) Brgy. FITS Kiosks in the municipality. Presently, it has an existing three (3) FITS Kiosks in Brgy. Talisay, Brgy. Poblacion, and Brgy. Linao.
These FITS Kiosks will serve as the barangay information center that aims to bring agriculture’s latest technology and services to farmers which could help boost their productivity.
The said activity was facilitated by the Information Services Section of the Center on August 15, 2022.
