In partnership with the Municipal Agriculture Office – Alcantara, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MiMaRoPa successfully conducted the second batch of Training of Trainers (TOT) on Corn Production Technologies: Management of Fall Army Worm (FAW) at Brgy. Poblacion, Alcantara, Romblon on April 19-21, 2022.

Mr. Joel Ryan R. Pagdato, Development Management I/Corn Point Person of ATI-MiMaRoPa, and Mr. Solo Arman Mercene of the DA-Integrated Laboratory Division MiMaRoPa served as Resource Speakers during the three-day training. The lectures focused on the status of FAW incidence in the Philippines, prevention, control and management practices, and suppression techniques for FAW. Also, the participants learned the characteristics of FAW pupa as well as the different bio-control agents against FAW.

The participants had a surveillance activity at Brgy. Pili, Looc, Romblon. The participants gathered data on corn insect pests and diseases and installed a FAW trap using a pheromone lure on the corn farm.

“Napakasaya po ng kabuuan ng training na ito dahil muli po ay nagsama-sama ang mga magmamais. Napakadami kung natutunan na alam ko ay maibabahagi ko po sa mga magsasaka upang mapangasiawan ang FAW sa kanilang maisan”, Mrs. Jostine Marie Famadulan, Agricultural Technologist, MAO-San Agustin shared.

A total of 25 AEWs in the different municipalities in the said province attended the training.
