To address the lack of veterinary services among other areas in Mindoro specifically in the rural areas, the 1st batch of Training on Animal Health Care and Management for Barangay Animal Health Worker (BAHW) was conducted at Imeldas Garden Hotel and Restaurant, Poblacion, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro on October 23-25, 2018.

Through this training, participants learned the basic knowledge in animal health care and management that is essential in performing animal health programs of the government in their respective areas. Also, participants acquired knowledge and were capacitated through lecture-discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. In addition, relevant information such as castrating of carabao, goat and pigs, hoof trimming and dehorning/disbudding of goat were imparted to them to become more effective as the front-liners in their areas. Lastly, scope and limitations as Barangay Animal Health Workers were explained thoroughly and promised to help their communities after this training.

Said activity held the hands-on activity at JMA Farm, accredited School for Practical Agriculture under Livestock Program of ATI MiMaRoPa. Lectures and practical classes were given by Dr. Maurieann M. Turingan, ATI staff from Region II and Dr. Lorelei T. Gonsay from LGU-San Mariano, Isabela.

A total of 28 participants attended the training.
