Towards Food Security: TOT on GAP Cassava

Geared to increase the production of cassava in the province as part of the food security thrust of the Department of Agriculture, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center MiMaRoPa conducted a 5-day intensive Training of Trainers on Good Agricultural Practices on Cassava on June 4 – 8, 2018 in Roxas, Palawan. It was participated by 22 participants composed of AEWs, ESP representative, LSA representative, and ATI Staff.

This training aims to capacitate partners regarding GAP for Cassava and Cassava Quality Standards. In addition, through this training, different GAP for cassava production and its importance were discussed as well as the set standards of the code of practices for the prevention of mycotoxin in cassava. Moreover, the best management practices options based on GAP were identified specifically during the growing season and post production.

Aside from discussion, part of the activity was the field visit for varietal identification of cassava, arthropod pests, insect pests and diseases which was appreciated by the participants. The field activities were a great help for the participants to fully understand the topics presented and discussed by the speakers.

At the end of the training, participants have submitted their action plan regarding cassava production activities in their localities as one of the requirements of the training.
