“We are blessed and very fortunate because opportunities like this is very rare, to be catered by ATI for our immersion program which was the first work immersion program in the Division of Calapan City,” said Ms. Glorineil D. Romero, Principal IV of Managpi National High School (MNHS).
A total of 25 students from the MNHS Senior High Students (21) and Good Shepherd Academy (4) under the Technical-Vocational Livelihood Organic Agriculture held its graduation ceremony on September 30, 2017 at ATI Session Hall, Barcenaga, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro with the theme “Knowledge, Skills and Values as Keys for the Success of Senior High School Immersion Program”.
In ten weeks, 25 students attended series of lectures and hands-on exercises under the supervision of Mr. Jay-ar B. Madriaga, Agriculturist I of ATI MiMaRoPa. They were exposed to various farm activities such vermicomposting, vegetable gardening, livestock handling, concoction making, plant propagation and Agro Ecosystems Analysis. They also enrolled in e-Learning and refreshed in Microsoft Office Applications.
In his impression, Emmanuel S. Panganiban, most outstanding student during the immersion, said that this program had been an avenue for learning new technologies especially in organic farming.
At present, seven out of 25 students already applied the Lababoy Technology they have learned and all of them are practicing composting back at home and in their respective schools.
During the graduation, the 25 students received their certificates of completion. Moreover, outstanding students were recognized and given special awards.
“We must love agriculture because this is our source of food. We are happy to see that there are still students who are interested in farming since many students nowadays do not want to enroll in agricultural courses,” Ruben P. Jugno, Training Center Superintendent I emphasized during in his closing message.
He also added that as the training arm of the Department of Agriculture, ATI MiMaRopA in partnership with DepEd will continue to train students who will be our future farmers and extension workers.
The second batch of MNHS Work Immersion Program for senior high school students will commence on October 6, 2017.
