Being in the twilight of their lives, the Senior Citizens still need to optimize their potentials and access all available services and opportunities and be able to address their day to day challenges. One of its means is supporting them to engage in a worthwhile activity which can also augment their income such as meat processing.
In this three-day training, the participants appreciated the lecture about gender and development, especially the VAWC because some of them are members of “lupon” and councilors of barangay. Moreover, the participants said that although they are old, but it does not hinder them to actively participate in meat processing. The participants were able to process meat such as ham, embutido, tocino, longganisa and pork tapa. Some of the recipes were cooked during the training so that they can have a taste of what they have prepared. According to them, they will make these at home because it's so easy to prepare and they can assure its safety and cleanliness. At the end of the training, the participants took home their outputs and they were also given measuring cups and spoons as starter kits for their endeavor.
Training on GMP for Meat Processors in support to GAD was held on May 22-24, 2018 in Narra, Palawan with 37 participants composed mostly with Senior Citizens.
