Educators, Vegetable Growers learn to Grow Organic Vegetables

Students, teachers, and farmers listen to Mr. Zandy Espuerta who explained the importance of vegetable consumption during the Training on Organic Vegetable Production in Malimono, Surigao del Norte on August 6-8, 2019.

MALIMONO, Surigao del Norte – In support to the promotion of safe and healthy food production, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 conducted the Training on Organic Vegetable Production last Aug. 6-8, 2019 teaching 33 teachers, students, and vegetable growers in the municipality.

Resource persons during the activity were from the Provincial Agriculture Office. Mr. Zandy Espuerta explained the topic of Vegetable Production and Pests and Diseases. Moreover, Ms. Cecilia V. Sol spoke about Organic Agriculture and its concoctions.

Participants also performed hands-on concoctions namely: Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ), and Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN), Fish Amino Acid (FAA), and 3C’s (carrot, celery, cucumber) as their output.

They also visited JB Nature Farm, owned by Engr. Woodrow Escobal situated in Brgy. Sukailang, Surigao City. The farm is one of the ATI-RTC 13 certified Learning Sites for Agriculture practicing permaculture and organic agriculture.

“We are very grateful to the Agricultural Training Institute for giving us this opportunity to have this training. Our teachers and youth are here which would greatly help our farmers in convincing other youths to love farming. And most especially, for the participants to apply the learnings they gained in their schools, farms, and even on their backyards,” said Vice Mayor Gerardo Quinto.
