Carmen women gain skills on handicraft making

Rural women/RIC members make their assigned accessories using beads during the training on handicraft making in Carmen, Surigao del Sur.

CARMEN, Surigao del Sur- The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 successfully conducted the Skills Training on Handicraft Making for Rural Improvement Club (RIC) members and Rural Women on July 22-24, 2019.

This was aimed at providing them the skills on handicraft and accessory making that will help them increase their income someday.

The opening program was graced by Municipal Agriculturist Rodolfo B. Celada. He warmly welcomed the participants on the first day. “We should have values and attitude towards handicraft-making, patience is very important for us to improve especially in looking for additional income. This is the answer and one way of inspiring ourselves to be more knowledgeable and skillful in making accessories that will augment our way of living.” Celada added.

Moreover, women were able to make accessories such as earrings, bracelets and rings as their outputs. This is with the guidance of Ms. Fevarsilia Macabanding from Tandag City as a Resource Person. Macabanding taught participants with the basics on how to make accessories and coached them individually on the following day.

Mr. Jason Paul Dads E. Jampac led the said training as the Project Officer along with the other training management staff of ATI. According to him, this training is a result of the survey conducted by the institute in the previous year.

There were thirty (30) women-participants completed the three-day training. Most of them are RIC members in Carmen, Surigao del Sur.

Meanwhile, Celada encouraged women to continually practice and use their acquired skills in making accessories even after the training.

The said training culminated on July 24, 2019. Participants received certificates of training during the culmination. This is with the usual support of the Local Government Unit of Carmen specifically with the strong linkage between ATI-RTC 13 and its Municipal Agriculture Office. This was also joined by Vice Mayor Daniel Tejol who also shared his words of inspiration and support for the livelihood program specifically for the rural women of Carmen, SDS.
