BUTUAN CITY, Agusan del Norte - Training on Swine Artificial Insemination was successfully conducted last October 24-26, 2018 in Butuan City. It was participated in by thirty-three (33) swine raisers/boar handlers, farmers and AEWs in Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur.

The training aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of participants in maintaining the quality of breeds of the piglets and also additional income to the raisers/farmers. Virginia F. Galdiano, one of the resource speakers discussed about Gilt/Sow Preparation to Insemination. Raul C. Cornites demonstrated and guided the participants on how to perform actual semen collection and semen evaluation. Some of them were able to have an actual hands-on of semen collection at the provincial demo farm. They also experienced evaluation of the semen through the use of microscope as well as the method of extending semen through the use of semen extenders. The actual insemination of sow/gilt were done in piggeries in Buenavista and the cities of Butuan and Cabadbaran.

The participants underwent lectures on the proper way of handling boars, methods and strategies in inserting catheters, techniques in semen evaluation, extending semen and heat detection.
