Women learn more recipes through skills training on cassava processing and utilization

Cassava Salbaro: One of the recipes processed by the participants in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur during the Skills Training on Cassava Processing and Utilization on June 18-20, 2018.

ESPERANZA, Agusan del Sur- Cassava upside-down cake, cassava binangkal, cassava espasol, cassava cake, cassava salbaro, cassava bread, cassava polvoron and cassava balls. These are some of the recipes prepared by the participating women in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur.

There were twenty-nine of them completed the skills training on cassava processing and utilization which was held right in the municipality’s Agriculture Training Center on June 18-20, 2018.

Said training aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge, skills and attitude and provide home-based business which will also become one of the additional income for the family.
Moreover, participants learned to identify the different processing methods using cassava as well as with the food safety hazards in processing this crop.

Mrs. Emilda O. Pagalan from the Municipal Agriculture Office of Esperanza served as the resource person in the said training. Discussion on the problems encountered during the hands-on demonstration and processing and how to overcome it, were among the highlights. There also the demonstration of the techniques and procedures on cassava processing in compliance to food safety standards.

Lani D. Manpatilan, one of the participants was very grateful to the Agricultural Training Institute- Regional Training Center 13 for inviting her to attend such training.

“Mrs. Pagalan, our speaker was able to stir-up our interests in cooking and planting cassava. I appreciate my teammates, the value of teamwork, clean workplace, hard work, mingling with others and even the ups and downs in cooking cassava. I learned the true value of cassava and its processes, that it is not only a food for the poor but also for the rich.” Professed Manpatilan.

In partnership with the Local Government Unit of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur, said training was successfully conducted and culminated on June 20, 2018.
