A good speaker is an engaged listener: GV Arbutante emphasizes the use of effective communication in the participants' daily activities during the interpersonal communication skills training held in Bayugan City on June 1, 2018.
BAYUGAN CITY, Agusan del Sur- A total of 30 cut flower growers from Bayugan City participated in the training on interpersonal communication skills on June 1, 2018.
This aimed at developing and enhancing the participants’ capability of communicating effectively in a more professional way. Handling situations applying effective communication.
“Are you communicating effectively?” This is the opening question that was asked to them by the Resource Person, Ginalyn V. Arbutante, Information Officer II of ATI-Caraga. She focuses her discussion on effective communication emphasizing that it is not only exchanging information. Instead, it involves feeling to get the total message and feedback. “A good speaker is an engaged listener”, she added.
Each of them was presented with different conflict situations and asked how they will handle such. This is to test their knowledge on the deeper meaning of communication.
Moreover, another staff from ATI teaches participants on how to adapt change or initiate a positive change in a group, becoming an effective member and a leader.
This is already a great opportunity that was given to them because they already have the edge among others in becoming an effective communicator. “Apply what you know to your neighbors specifically to your co-members in an organization because 80% comes from how you feel about what you know.” Arbutante professed.
Participants thanked trainers on the knowledge they imparted in a one-day activity. For them, it was such a productive day, full of learning not only for the mind but also for the heart. It certainly served as a food for the heart and mind.
According to August Jackson, interpersonal communication skills represent the way in which you use your communication skills to communicate with people.
One of the participants said that as members of the cut flower growers organization, it is really a big help for her to communicate others effectively in showcasing their produce.
The said activity was held in Meteor Garden, Poblacion, Bayugan City in coordination with the City Agriculture Office of Bayugan through Engr. Eulalia Pore, Agriculturist II and the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 based in Los Angeles, Butuan City.
