Brgy. Biosecurity Officers train on Swine Specimen Collection

Mr. Ruben T. Mananquil, one of the resource speakers, gave an in depth explanation on African Swine Fever (ASF) during the Bantay sa ASF: Training on Specimen Collection for BBOs (Batch 6) on June 24-25, 2021 held in Cortes, Surigao del Sur.

CORTES, Surigao del Sur – As part of the activities in the combat against the country’s rising number of African Swine Fever (ASF) cases, there were 15 Barangay Biosecurity Officers (BBOs) who joined and completed the Bantay sa ASF: Training on Specimen Collection for BBOs (Batch 6) on June 24-25, 2021.

It aimed to capacitate BBOs to gain additional knowledge and skills on collecting specimens for laboratory testing. Participants were able to apply appropriate handling and restraining technique, prepare supplies, materials, tools in collection and transport of specimen, prepare animals for collection, and formulate re-entry plan.

The resource persons were Emmylou C. Calilan, Norberto S. Yu Jr., Coneda T. Galela, and Ruben T. Mananquil who were from the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Surigao del Sur.

The said training was conducted by Florita Lozada, Livestock Program point person of Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) XIII, together with the Provincial Veterinary Office of Surigao del Sur in support to the National Livestock Program (NLP).
