Elmer Claros, Agricultural Technologist from Buenavista, Agusan del Norte teaches online learners on leguminous crop production for human consumption during the 5th episode of the webinar on September 4, 2020.
BUTUAN CITY- The fifth episode of the i-BIDA nATIn program webinar series talks on the importance and health benefits of leguminous crop to humans and animals.
The said episode which was aired last September 4, 2020 served as an avenue for the participants in gaining new knowledge specifically in producing different types of legumes.
Elmer Claros served as the Resource Person of the topic Leguminous Crop Production. He is an Agricultural Technologist from the Municipal Agriculture Office of Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.
Claros presented some of the nutrient contents in legumes such as Potassium and Magnesium. It is said that Potassium is rich in minerals and served as an electrolyte. It helps muscles work, especially in controlling heartbeat and breathing. On the other hand, Magnesium is responsible for muscle and nerve function, regulating blood pressure and support the immune system.
Moreover, common types of leguminous vegetables were also discussed by Claros during the webinar. Legume crops provide feed and food. It lowers the emission of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide as well as improve soil fertility. This is among the multiple benefits of legumes for agricultural sustainability.
