Caerian B. Muga, resource person of the topic "Soil Mixes", shares his own experience on the importance of having the macro and micro nutrients present in the soil used when gardening during the 5th episode of the i-BIDA nATIn Webinar on Concoction Series on June 19, 2020.
LOS ANGELES, Butuan City – Now on its 5th and final episode, the i-BIDA nATIn (Internet-Based Intervention for the Development of Agriculture ng Agricultural Training Institute ngayon) Webinar on Concoction Series featured the importance of soil as the main component of any crop production.
Caerian B. Muga, a technical staff of the Career Development and Management Section (CDMS), was the resource person. He discussed the benefits of soil mixes, macro and micronutrients needed by plants from the soil, and materials used for soil mixes such as carbonized rice hull, vermicast and garden soil.
There were 44 participants who attended the online event. Six partakers also gave their impressions. Questions raised by the participants were answered by Mr. Muga and Engr. Matt Andrew G. Bacquiano, Agriculturist II and OIC-Chief of the Partnerships and Accreditation Services Section (PASS). Acting Asst. Center Director Heracleo A. Paler was among the behind-the-scene personnel present to give his technical and moral support.
Alex Lomarda, a farmer and seaman who is currently in Belgium, extended his thanks to ATI RTC XIII for realizing the webinar series. He added that even though he was out of the country, still he was able to learn new things in agriculture because of the online platform.
Moreover, Genebei Faith S. Sajolan, a high school teacher said that when the pandemic started, they did not know what to expect. Most of the people were used to face-to-face mode of learning but through i-BIDA nATIn they were introduced to a new learning format which was equally useful for them. She also thanked the quick response of ATI staff whenever she needed help and assistance.
The other four partakers who gave their impressions were Girlie Jean J. Candelario, a small-hold farmer, and housewife from new Pandan, Panabo, Davao del Norte; Leni S. Mission, lady farmer from Baan Km 3, Butuan City; Joanna Claire D. Lumayaga, a teacher from Mangagoy, Bislig City; and Luz T. Dayo, a Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) from San Jose, Bislig City.
“This is the first time that ATI-RTC XIII has conducted an activity like this i-BIDA nATIn webinar. It is very heartwarming to hear the comments on how this initiative was accepted by the public not just in Caraga Region but to wherever this online program could reach,” said Samuel L. Calonzo, Center Director, during his closing statement.
