BUTUAN CITY – The Agricultural Training Institute- Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 recently conducted the National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) 2019 in Robinsons Place, Butuan City last November 18, 2019. This is part of the DA’s campaign for responsible rice consumption that supports the goal of attaining rice security.
NRAM will be celebrated every November in accordance with Proclamation No. 524 series of 2004 where November was declared as National Rice Awareness month.
Mr. Sharen Rivas, Science Research Specialist II of Phil Rice Agusan discussed the effects to consumers and responsibility as a consumer. He imparted the importance of rice as the main staple food of the Filipinos.
A boodle fight and cooking-contest featuring brown rice as the main ingredient highlighted in the NRAM which is under the “Be RICEponsible” campaign.
The theme “Buy Local. Eat Local. Support Our Rice Farmers” aims to encourage consumers to patronize locally produced rice to help our fellow Filipino farmers as producers.
The celebration of NRAM 2019 encouraged the public in the nationwide advocacy initiative that aims to promote responsible rice consumption, through the non-wastage of rice, consumption of healthier rice and boost farmer’s morale that will contribute towards the attainment of rice-sufficiency and food security in the country.
