ATI, Smart tandem in digitalizing agriculture

LOS ANGELES, Butuan City- The Digital Farmers Program (DFP) 101 is an exploratory project between the Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Training Institute and SMART Communications, Inc. which aims to advance the local industry’s adoption of more innovative forms of technology in farming.
To accelerate its promotion, the ATI-Regional Training Center 13 conducted a one-day Knowledge Sharing and Learning among the 26 participants composed of 10 farmers, 15 youth and 1 Teacher from Butuan City on November 27, 2019.

The resource persons and facilitators from Smart Communications and Probe Media Foundation ensured that the learning process will be interesting and easy especially with the farmer-participants through hands-on exercises. Ms. Kim Namocatcat of Smart Communications discussed the basic operations and features of SmartPhone 101. She introduced some tips on phonetography, videography as well as internet safety.

During the seminar, the farmers explored various applications as source of information and technologies in farming. The farmers were also taught that social media platforms such as Facebook can also be used in promoting and selling their respective farm products.

In a separate session, the young participants learned about the qualities of a good video, tips in telling a story, elements of video as well as editing from the resource person Mr. Jay Jay Orense of Probe Media Foundation.

Mr. Fil Victor A. Babanto presented and discussed the different ICT tools available for the farmers such as MOET application, Rice Doctor, Pinoy Rice Knowledge Bank, Farmers Contact Center, and e-extension among others where they can access information, production techniques and recommendations.

The DFP intends to develop agricultural contents based on the wisdom and practices of the farmers by allowing them to personally tell their stories and best practices. During the afternoon session, each farmer was paired with one youth for the preparation and production of video as their output for the seminar which they presented before the group.
