First SOA Graduation On-Air held in SurSur

Mr. Fritzieh Trujillo served as the Anchorman of the SOA Porgram on Rice Production with the assigned resource persons of the weekly episodes.

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur- A total of 323 enrollees have completed the 16-week School-on-the-Air (SOA) Program on Rice Production and confirmed as SOA graduates on-air on November 3, 2020 via Radyo Bandera station based in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur. This was hosted by the Anchorman Fritzieh Trujillo from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist in the said province.

The said graduates on-air comprised farmers, students and agricultural extension workers (AEWs) from the five (5) participating local government units (LGUs) of Surigao del Sur. The said LGUs were Cagwait, Bayabas, Tago, Cortes and Tandag City.

Top ten graduates per LGU were also recognized during the event as well as the SOA coordinators, LGUs and Resource Persons who shared their time and expertise during the implementation of the program.

In his message, Provincial Agriculturist Marcos M. Quico hoped that the SOA graduates learned more about rice production since this is one of the priority crops in the country. "Despite what we encountered especially to the decreasing selling price, still we do not lose hope for a better one. I prayed that our government will have concrete actions regarding this matter. Hence, we should not stop planting and producing rice for our family to survive and the whole humanity, the Filipino people. Congratulations everyone”. Added Quico.

On the other hand, Center Director Samuel L. Calonzo expressed his profound gratitude to the provincial government of Surigao del Sur through its Provincial Agriculture Office headed by PA Quico for the continued effort in implementing the SOA program in the province. “

Aside from certificates of completion, each farmer- graduate also received 1 sack of inorganic fertilizer as extension support to reinforce their learning from the SOA. The top 10 in each municipality/city also received awards and prizes such as knapsack sprayer, farm boots, hand rake and shovel and radio with flashlight.

The said SOA program was conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 13 from July-October this year in coordination with the Provincial Local Government Unit of Surigao del Sur through the Provincial Agriculture Office.
