Victims of abuse find solace in ATI’s demo farm

Visitors from DSWD toured around the demo farm of ATI-Caraga in Brgy. Los Angeles, Butuan City.

LOS ANGELES, Butuan City - If communing with nature is therapeutic then a tour to a farm would be the perfect place to be especially for people who are neglected or distressed. True enough, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center XIII (ATI-Caraga) conducted an expository tour at ATI’s demonstration farm exclusively for the orphaned children of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Home for Girls last September 28, 2018.

Twenty-nine children and two staff from DSWD toured around the small farm which showcased crops and livestock production, organic agriculture, integrated and diversified farming system. The children enjoyed feeding the goat, rabbit, chicken, turkey, ducks and fish in the pond. They also experienced harvesting the radish which inspired them to produce their own vegetables.

According to Paula Mae Creencia, GAD Focal Person of ATI-Caraga and Project Officer of the said activity, the purpose of the activity was to enhance the children’s development process through interactive learning, appreciate the importance of farming and show to them the brighter side of life.
