Caraga Schools support ‘4-H Garden in the School’

Members of the newly organized 4H Club of Alegria Stand Alone Senior High School work together in showcasing their “Garden in the School”

LOS ANGELES, Butuan City - To reintroduce agriculture in the Philippines’ basic education and to organize 4-H Club in schools, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) XIII urged schools in the region to promote agriculture in the classroom setting. With this, 5 schools in Caraga (one per province) were identified as partners of ATI in the implementation of the 4-H Garden in the School program.

This is in support to the Department of Agriculture (DA) project “ATIng Gulyan” on which ATI will provide the initial seeds, organic fertilizers, and seminars/trainings if needed. The school garden will serve as a venue to grow and produce vegetables, and for students to have real appreciation on agriculture by “dirtying their hands” and the food production system.

The program will run for three months and was already launched on the following dates in the schools, namely:
• General Aguinaldo National High School on June 19-2018 – Libjo, Province of Dinagat Islands
• Las Nieves Central Elementary School on July 10-11, 2018 – Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte
• Alegria Stand Alone Senior High School on July 23-24, 2018 – Alegria Surigao del Norte
• Bayugan National Comprehensive High School on August 7-8, 2018 – Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur
• Banuison Elementary School on September 20-21, 2018 – Cortes, Surigao del Sur
