The participants were given the chance to prepare and cook different cassava recipes.
TUBAJON, Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI) – Thirty farmers from Tubajon, PDI graduated from the Skills Training on Cassava Processing and Utilization held in this town last September 18-20, 2018.
The aim of the training was to enhance the knowledge, attitude and skills of cassava farmers in the rural areas in order to provide home-based business and additional income for their family.
According to Neptali Madarimot, Training Specialist II of ATI-Caraga and Project Officer of the said training, “Cassava is one of the most adaptable crop grown in our localities, yet many farmers still doesn't know the full potential of this crop. Another rising issue in agriculture industry is food safety which plays a big role towards global marketability of our products. Hence a three-day Skills Training on Cassava Processing and Utilization was conducted in Tubajon, Dinagat Islands. “
He added that the participants learned and appreciated the value of cassava which they took for granted prior to their participation in the training. Furthermore, the farmers learned the basics of food safety and proper handling of processed food.
During the closing program, the participants expressed their eagerness to replicate the learnings to their respective homes and to start their own home-based business.
