LOS ANGELES, Butuan City-The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 recently conducted the Training on Squid Processing and Food Safety Awareness on September 25-27, 2019.
This was actively participated by thirty (30) Rural Improvement Club (RIC) Members, Rural Women, and 4H Club Members from Tubay and Butuan City.
The training aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of the women groups, RIC members and other stakeholders in Squid Processing and Food Safety Awareness thru technology promotion.
Ms. Jocelyn A. Bayona, Training Specialist III of ATI-RTC 13 welcomed participants during the opening program. She thanked them for sparing their time and effort in attending the training.
Bayona reminded the participants that whatever learning they will learn from the training, hopefully they will share it to their community.
Food Safety Awareness was discussed by a member of Caraga Food Safety Team, Ms. Jennifer J. Dejarme with topics on Intro to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety Hazards and Food Contact Surfaces, Handwashing, Personal Hygiene and Cross Contamination.
On the other hand, Mr. Paterno B. Silla Jr. from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Caraga discussed Squid Processing. More topics were discussed followed by a hands-on activity for the 3-day training.
As outputs, participants were able to process Home-made squid balls, Spicy Fermented Squid (Ojingeogeot) and Bottled Squid Adobo. Right after the processing, they were assigned for plating and garnishing.
One of the participants, Jocelyn Adajar said that the training on Squid Processing is not just about the topic itself. It is more on helping each one of us to become the best person. “We learned a lot of things here in this training, specially the actual activities that we had, the recipes are easy to follow and the speakers had also explained it clearly”, Adajar added.
Ms. Paula Mae A. Creencia, Development Management Officer II of ATI-Caraga served as the Project Officer of the said training (with report from PACreencia).
