Promoting Organic Agriculture for Bislig Ministerial Association (BISMA)

BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur – In support to the goals of providing safe food and ensuring food security through sustainable farming, the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC13) conducted a seminar entitled “Promoting Organic Agriculture for Bislig Ministerial Association (BISMA)” on September 25, 2018 at City Organic Agri-Fishery Complex (COAFC) Bislig City.
The seminar specifically aimed to equip the participants with the knowledge and basic hands -on regarding the concepts and principles of organic agriculture.
A total of 60 participants attended the seminar coming from Bislig Evangelical Minister and Leaders Inc.
Leo A. Navarro, Executive Assistant IV, one of the resource speakers, discussed the basic principles and history of organic farming. He also shared the farming technologies and strategies being implemented at COAFC. Lolita P. Sayman, Assistant City Agriculturist/Executive Manager of City Organic Agri-Fishery Complex (COAFC), discussed the topic on “Pagsusi sa kahimtang sa Kaumahan” and demonstrated the preparation of various concoctions during her lecture.
Located in Sta, Cruz, Bislig City, COAFC is a 27-hectare facility for organic education, training and research. It houses the organic undertakings such as fishery, vegetable, livestock and fertilizer production, among others. It is also served as ATI accredited learning sites and farm school accredited by TESDA.
Some of the participants expressed their gratitude for the seminar. One of them was Mr. POP J. CUABO, Missionaries to Asia New Life Church Bislig city remarked on how comprehensive the seminar was. “I learned after attending this seminar that being correlated to organic agriculture/product is very essential in our daily lives. We can gain many advantages in order to promote a healthy society, as well as, if we just have a perseverance to follow certain process we can produce a well nurtured product. It will be a great help in having progressive community in the future without buying those chemicals that could harm our plants, animals and even into our own health…. GO! GO! GO! Organic! GOD Bless everyone”, he shared.
Meanwhile, LEOVEN G. ESTOSE, President of Bislig Evangelical Minister and Leaders Inc. said that the seminar is timely and relevant particularly as a necessity for healthy life. It extracts my understanding to once again passionate to support and advocate the organic farming, not just an option nor alternate but it must be a choice for us to have an excellent and sustainable life through organic agriculture. On behalf of BISMA, he extended his gratitude for allowing them as the beneficiaries of this holistic endeavor towards a productive society through organic agriculture.
