PDI prepares 2020 Agri-Fishery Extension needs

Participants voiced out their concerns during the open forum of the Provincial Consultation in the Province of Dinagat Islands.

SAN JOSE, Province of Dinagat Islands - The voice of the local government unit matters for the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and in order to have efficiency, transparency and local involvement in training and extension activities in agriculture, the regional training center based in Butuan City conducted a Provincial Consultation for FY 2020 Agri-Fishery Extension Needs Planning Workshop last August 9, 2018 at Usher’s Building in Brgy. Poblacion, San Jose.
Fifty-six participants composed of representatives from the Provincial Agriculture Office of Dinagat Islands and Municipal Agriculture Offices in San Jose, Dinagat, Basilisa, Libjo, Tubajon, Loreto and Cagdianao; representatives from POs/NGAs like the Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC) and ATI.

The aim of the activity was to harmonized program among extension service providers of the DA family and to determine the need based training among stakeholders. Specifically, ATI wants the participants to be informed of the 2019 Plans and Programs of ATI; craft the 2020 Plans and Programs; harmonize different extension activities; identify possible intervention among other stakeholders; and participate in the open forum for issues and concern.

The overview of the activity was given by Nena Lomuntad, ATI-Caraga’s Planning Officer II and Project Officer of the said Consultation Workshop. It was followed by a presentation of approved 2019 Work and Financial Plan of ATI-Caraga per commodity program. The HVCD Program was presented by Engr. Joel M. Laure (Agriculturist II, ATI-Caraga); the Corn Program and Rice Program were presented by Violeta Laguna (Training Specialist II, ATI-Caraga); Information Services Section by Fil Victor Babanto (Chief, ISS/IO-II); and the Organic Agriculture Program, Livestock Program, RBO and 4H Programs by Heracleo Paler (Sr. Agriculturist).

During the workshop for 2020 Agri-Fishery Extension Needs, the participants input their extension needs per province/municipality. Then the outputs of the workshop were submitted. It was followed by an open forum wherein the participants addressed their concerns.
