The spirette is carefully inserted in a counterclockwise rotation into the vagina of the sow. This is where semen flows from the bottle/container and into the uterus. Massaging the female’s flank during insemination elicits uterine contractions that are vital for sperm transport. (Photo by: FVA Babanto)
TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur – A total of forty graduating students of the Caraga State University (CSU) attended the “Hands-on Training on Walang Aray sa AI: Artificial Insemination in Pigs” from September 4-5, 2017 (1st Batch) and September 6-7, 2017 (2nd Batch) in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.
This undertaking is a reinforcement of the online course on Walang Aray sa AI: Artificial Insemination in Pigs wherein e-learning participants who completed the said online course have to take up the hands-on training (actual demonstration) as a requirement in awarding training certificates.
The AI course is a blended course where the learning approach is from theory to application. This means the knowledge gained by e-learning participants from the online theories has to be supplemented with a hands-on training/practicum.
Marcos M. Quico, Provincial Agriculturist of Surigao del Sur, during his opening remarks encouraged the students to venture into swine production and apply their learnings on the AI technology.
During the two-day training, the participants underwent lectures on heat detection and semen morphology, plus demonstration and practicum in semen collection, evaluation and processing, and proper handling of boar.
The third batch is scheduled on September 25-26, 2017 with twenty expected students, and to be held still in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.
