Participants of the Training on Small Engine Servicing performed hands-on activities during its second day on August 19, 2021 at ATI-RTC XIII, Los Angeles, Butuan City.
LOS ANGELES, Butuan City – Moving forward towards the development of farmers’ skills and knowledge on the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of small farm engine, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) XIII held the Training on Small Engine Servicing for Farmer Operators and Technicians on August 18-20, 2021.
This training aims to demonstrate the appropriate, proper, and efficient way to repair; discuss the basic troubleshooting of gasoline and diesel engine; and explain the basic parts, principles and theory behind compression ignition engine and spark ignition engine.
In his message during the opening program, Asst. Center Director Heracleo A. Paler said that farmers in Caraga need to be updated in terms of farm mechanization. Further, he encouraged the partakers to produce crops and raise livestock animals using new technologies that are environment-friendly and efficient.
The resource persons during the three-day activity were: Engr. Matt Andrew Baquiano for the topics on farm mechanization perspective, status of agri-fisheries mechanization, and constraints and strategies in Caraga Region; Mr. Inosencio B. Minguez – Agriculturist II of Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga Region, explained the engine operation and maintenance safety, operating conditions, gasoline safety, safe maintenance and protecting your health in engine servicing; Engr. Norvien T. Mantilla – Senior Science Research Specialist (SSRS), shared the different hand tools used in small engine servicing , engine cycle and operation.
Participants were able to learn how to assemble and disassemble small farm engine during their hands-on demonstration. They also prepared a re-entry plan to be done in their respective groups and associations.
Joel A. Jongko, one of the participants from Cabadbaran City said, “Kini nga training dako ang tabang sa amo nga mga operator sa small engine aron makabalo mi sa pag-atiman sa mga makina, pag-trouble shoot ug pag-repair. Karon nga nakatraining name, dili lang mi operator kundi mekaniko pa (This training helps operators learn how to take care, troubleshoot, and repair small engines. With this also, we are not just operators but also mechanics).”
