MABOG, San Roque, Bislig City – With its goal to reintroduce agriculture in Philippine’s basic education, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 launched the 4-H Garden in the School Program in Mabog National High School led by Principal Marivic Villaluz last July 29-30, 2019.
Mr. Oscar Macua, representative of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bislig City, gave his definition of 4-H. He said that the first H refers to ‘Head’ as the source of knowledge which one has gained through activities such as trainings, seminars, conferences and others. The second H refers to ‘Heart’ which shows passion and love, the third one refers to ‘Hands’ for the action from the knowledge gained. The fourth one refers to ‘Health’ which was highlighted as very important hence the saying “health is wealth”.
The two-day activity included a Seminar on Organic Vegetable Gardening. Agriculture Extension Workers (AEWs) who served as resource persons were Alice Millan, Ruby Los Baños, Niel Anthony Jamora, and Pauline Baltazar.
Participants also performed a hands-on activity in making concoctions such as Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ), and Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN) as their output.
“The City Agriculture Office of Bislig is always ready and willing to extend technical assistance. Aside from the farm tools given by ATI, we could also provide other implements needed for the success of this program,” said Primacar Subibi, City Agriculturist.
