BRGY. LOS ANGELES, Butuan City – Also called superfoods, these healthy and delicious, cruciferous vegetables were the highlight of the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) XIII Webinar on Vegetable Gardening Series episode 3 on July 10, 2020.
Mr. Romer C. Amante, farmer practitioner and technical staff of the High-Value Crops Development Program under the Department of Agriculture – Caraga Region, was the resource person.
Some of the common cruciferous vegetables discussed were pechay, Chinese pechay, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, spinach, radish, and mustard. This group is rich in vitamins and minerals which include vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, potassium, folate, high in fiber, high in choline, and low-carbohydrates which could be an alternative to grain and legumes.
The discussion also included: site selection, land preparation, seedling management, crop care and maintenance, fertilization, pests and diseases management, and harvesting. Moreover, Mr. Amante also explained the marketing aspect of the said vegetables.
Dubbed as “Himos nga mga Cruciferous” episode, it included a question and answer portion from the google meet participants which lasted more than two hours and was the longest among the webinar episodes.
