SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte – The threat of the pandemic did not hinder the actors in the value chain to join Day 2 of the “Provincial Consultation Workshops on the Development of the National Extension Agenda and Programs (NEAP) for FY 2022-2028 held in JB Nature Farm, Brgy. Sukailang, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte last July 9, 2021. Part of their role was to validate the outputs of stakeholders who filled out the worksheets in Day 1 (July 8, 2021). These worksheets contained the perceived gaps and proposed interventions.
The Days 2 participants were composed of key players in the value chain such as seed producers, caterers, livestock raisers, farm school owners, and rural-based organization leaders. Among the issues they raised was the lack of personnel in the agriculture office who are mandated to address the technical needs of the farmers. Moreover, there was also clamor for Local Government Units to assist in linking producers to buyers and put in place mechanisms that will facilitate easy marketing of agricultural produce. PA Lagahit was also present on Day 2 to respond to some issues and concerns raised by the participants.
Heracleo A. Paler, Assistant Center Director of ATI-RTC 13, during his closing message, expressed his thanks to the participants who are representing the private sector for their contributions, suggestions, and perseverance in helping the government develop the NEAP. He hoped that all the plans that have been identified will be realized despite changes and uncertainties.
