BUENAVISTA, Tandag City – In support to the National Livestock Program, the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 13 implemented the Artificial Insemination (AI) sa Barangay project to promote the production of high-quality pigs.

Oscar G. Martinez, one of the recipients of the project showed the progress of his project a year after he was chosen by ATI-RTC 13 to implement the “AI sa Barangay” in Tandag City. As extension support to AI service, Martinez received 2 breeder boars, a crossbred of Duroc and Pietrain in 2019. He was also provided with various laboratory equipment and tools for semen processing. Martinez was also trained for Swine AI at ATI-International Training Center for Pig Husbandry, Lipa City, Batangas.

Livestock Point Person Florita G. Garcia attested during periodic monitoring last June 11, 2020, the on-going repayment of the project. Martinez already provided good quality semen to his neighboring hog raisers. Good quality semen from superior boars will aid in the improvement of pigs not only in Buenavista but also to adjacent barangays in the city.

Aside from being an AI sa barangay co-operator, Martinez is currently the President of 4-H Club in Tandag City. (with the report from Florita G. Lozada)
