FITS staff, MS get updates on Climate Information System

AMONTAY, Nasipit, Agusan del Norte - Recently, personnel from the Weather Philippines based in Metro Manila served as the resource speakers for today’s topic on Climate Information System (CIS).

Ms. Kaye Rosario-Sangalang, Sustainability Manager, talks on the importance and utilization of the Automated Weather Station (AWS) along with their moves on seeking partnership with other organizations.
She emphasizes on the three main goal, technology, partnership and engagement.

On the technology aspect, there were around 800 Automated Weather Stations (AWS) deployed nationwide. This is through a strengthened linkage between and among local government units (LGUs) and other partner agencies.

Moreover, when it comes to engagement there were more than 860 Disaster Risk Reduction Officers trained on AWS installation and weather information access via website. “Empower local governments, businesses, and Filipinos to be #WeatherWiser” Sangalang added.

At this moment, twenty-nine Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center staff and ten (10) Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) in Region 13 updated on climate information system (CIS).

This is through the Training Course on Climate Information System in Support to Techno-Gabay Program Implementers.

The said training is currently conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute- Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) in Amontay, Nasipit, Ausan del Norte which will run from June 25-27, 2018.

Mr. Babanto, OIC-Section Chief of the ATI-Information Services Section served as the project officer of the 3-day training.

Participants’ outputs include Action Plans and Proposals from the Magsasaka Siyentistas and FITS centers involved as an ‘Enhanced” one.
