TUBAY, Agusan del Norte - The Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 conducted a Barangay-based Corn and Livestock Integration Training in Mondejar Farm, Victory, Tubay, Agusan del Norte on June 21 – 22, 2021. This is in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Tubay through its Municipal Agriculture Office.
Said training was participated by 20 corn farmers from Barangay Victory in Tubay. It aimed at helping farmers to produce corn in a more profitable way. It aimed also at teaching them apply the best techniques in producing high quality silage for their livestock.
Mr. Oscar S. Tuyor, retired Supervising Agriculturist from the Provincial Agriculture Office of Agusan del Norte served as one of the Resource Persons. He highlighted the importance of Soil Analysis and choosing a high quality of a recommended variety to improve their farming practices. Tuyor also cited some techniques in controlling pests by monitoring and conserving the natural enemies.
Moreover, Mr. Raul C. Cornites, former Agriculturist II from the Provincial Veterinary Office of Agusan del Norte discussed the importance and uses of corn as the main ingredient in feeds for livestock and poultry. He demonstrated the making of silage as an alternative feed for large ruminants.
Further, Mr. Olegario B. Ayensa, Jr. owner of the Country Fields Agri and a certified LSA in Tungao, Butuan City discussed about Health Care and Management of Cattle, Carabao, Goat, and Hog. He also discussed the Probiotics for Livestock and Poultry as well as Feed Formulation along with the demonstration of Homemade Feeds for Hogs and Poultry.
One of the participants, Paz B. Ligutom, chairwoman for corn farmers’ group shared her gratefulness in becoming a part of the training.
“I am very much thankful to this training especially to the people nga nagpaluyo niini, gikan sa ATI, ug gikan sa probinsya ug labi na sa atong Municipal Agriculture Office of Tubay, nga kami naka-avail niini nga pagtu-on, para sa kaayohan sa among kaugalingon ingon man sa among asosasyon ug sa tibuok Federation. Gusto pa gyod ko nga maka-avail pa ug dugang pagtu-on, ug gusto pod ko isip usa ka pangulo sa grupo nga makabarog mi sa among kaugalingong grupo, tungod kay nagplano ko nga molambo kining grupoha pinaagi niining among nakat-unan. “
Each participant received one (1) bag of yellow corn seeds served as after training extension support. The said training was facilitated by Caerian Muga and Neptali V. Madarimot from ATI-Caraga who served as Project Officers (with reports from CMuga).
