LOS ANGELES, Butuan City – Fifteen farmers from Tubod, Surigao del Norte who are members of the Surigao Agri-Producers and Products Association of Tubod (SAPPAT) attended the Training Course on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for Cacao Production last June 16-18, 2021 at the ATI-RTC 13 training complex.
The training discussed on the overview of cacao industry, status and prospects of the industry, marketing opportunities, elements of Good Agricultural Practices, cultural management practices of cacao, pests and diseases of cacao and their control measures, harvest and post-harvest management of cacao, and formulation of re-entry plan.
Mary Jane Gonzaga, Project Officer of the training, said that there is a need to accelerate the promotion and development of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for cacao because farmer-leaders have to be trained on it to effectively deliver extension services through dynamic approaches.
