The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte launched its own FITS center on June 7, 2018 in the Municipal Agriculture Office building. This would be an addition to more than 30 established FITS Centers in the region for the previous years.

With the assistance of the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13, the said FITS center received catalytic fund worth one hundred thousand pesos (Php100, 000.00). This amount is intended for the purchase of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment and other related expenses as stipulated in the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Techno Gabay Program (TGP).

Moreover, the Techno Gabay Program (TGP) was originally initiated by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to promote technology dissemination and utilization guides and facilitate knowledge sharing among extension workers and farmers.

The said event was attended by the town’s Municipal Mayor, Municipal Agriculture Office personnel, Partner Agency representative and the ATI-Caraga staff.

On the other hand, Ms. Abegail Eupeña, President of the Surigao del Norte College of Agriculture and Technology (SNCAT) gave her message to the farmers and encourage them to send their children to the said school and avail their scholarship programs.

In her message, Mayor Elvira A. Egay strongly supports the goal of the TGP and thankful for having their FITS center wherein constituents can avail its services anytime they want.
“The backbone of our Nation are the farmers, we should be proud of that, Mabuhay ang mga Farmers,” exclaimed Egay.

The Institute’s Information Services Section (ISS) lead in the implementation of the said government program for the benefit of the farmers and fishers in the region. Mr. Babanto and Ms. Arbutante assisted in the said event by presenting the overview of the Techno Gabay Program.

More than 60 farmers attended in the launching ceremony that was held right in the Municipal Agriculture Office lobby near its newly established FITS center.
