DA-Caraga Research Station launched FITS Center in AgSur

TALACOGON, Agusan del Sur- The Del Monte Lowland Rainfed Research Station (DMLRRS) launched its Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center on May 26, 2021. The said research station of the Department of Agriculture Caraga is based at Brgy. Del Monte, Talocogon, Agusan del Sur.

The launching activity was simultaneously conducted with the Station’s Field Day in celebration of the Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s month this year.

Among the invited participants are farmer-leaders from different municipalities and city of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur.

Moreover, Da-Caraga personnel joined in the said activity in the person of Regional Technical Director Nicandro M. Navia, Jr. and Research Division Chief Dr. Abel F. Wagas. The two executed the ribbon-cutting of the FITS center with Ms. Catheryn B. Juyno, ACC III as FITS Manager.

The FITS launching activity was also joined by Ginalyn V. Arbutante, I.O II of the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13. She presented the overview of the Techno Gabay Program (TGP) wherein FITS center is one of the four components of the said program. Basically, the purpose of the FITS center of the DMLRRS was among the discussions. Arbutante also encouraged farmers to visit the FITS center and learned more on the updates of various agricultural technologies through Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials as well as net surfing.

The one-day activity was kicked-off by a field tour to various technology demonstrations of the DMLRRS. In here, farmers learned more techniques specifically in vegetable and mushroom productions. This is along with the demonstration on value-adding as well as processing mushroom into various products such as cookies, polvoron and more.
