PVO-SDN, ATI strengthen BBOs for ASF measures of the province

The participants performed the proper collection of samples needed for laboratory procedure.

SURIGAO CITY - The ATI-RTC 13 in cooperation with the Provincial Veterinary Office – Surigao del Norte successfully conducted the 5th batch of the Bantay sa ASF sa Barangay: Training on Specimen Collection for Barangay Biosecurity Officers (BBO) last May 11-12, 2021.

In her message, Provincial Veterinarian Life Sheila Laugo-Cubillanes recognized the vital role of BBO in preventing the entry of ASF in the province. ATI-RTC 13 Assistant Center Director Heracleo A. Paler said that ATI is hoping that the training will strengthen the collaborative effort of the province in the fight against ASF.

Dr. Jessica Naniong-Rosete and Dr. Jade Rosete served as the Resource Persons. The participants were taught on the basic biosafety and biosecurity measures against ASF and the legal procedures in apprehending the transport of hogs from other areas.

The participants learned the proper collection of samples needed for laboratory procedure as well as the proper techniques in animal handling and restraining during their hands-on exercises at the Surigao City slaughter facility.

A total of 23 trainees composed of Livestock program focal person and PVO personnel received their certificates of completion.
