ATI-Caraga conducts two batches of training on cassava processing in Surigao del Norte

SURIGAO DEL NORTE- The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 successfully conducted the two batches of Skills Training on Cassava Processing and Food Safety Awareness in Surigao del Norte in the month of May.

The first batch was held in Surigao City on May 22-24, 2019 while the second batch was conducted in Malimono, Surigao del Norte on May 28-30, 2019.

These trainings aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of the women specifically the Rural Improvement Club Members in the said province on cassava processing compliant to food safety standards.

More than 60 women who were members of the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) in Surigao del Norte participated in the two batches of training.

“A million thanks to the people behind the seminar specially to the ATI-Caraga, to our dear speakers and active staff. Thank you for giving us the chance to experience and witness this kind of training which enlighten our minds and broaden our knowledge on how to process cassava in many ways and also for giving us the information about Food Safety. We made this far, we experienced and gained a lot on this training.” This is what Ethyl Mae G. Creencia said during the Batch I training. She was a member of the RIC in Sison, Surigao del Norte and one of the participants of the said training.

Ms. Antonieta Tuskowski, a farmer and a processor from Basilisa, Province of Dinagat Islands served as the resource person. The participants were taught with the steps, procedures and techniques in processing and preparing cassava products. They were able to achieve the desired outputs of the training which are the processed products of cassava such as cassava cake, balls, cue, binangkal and fries.

The series of training were led by the two Project Officers, Paula Mae A. Creencia, DMO II and Jason Paul Dads E. Jampac, MPS II of ATI-Caraga.

This is in cooperation with the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) of Surigao del Norte, specifically the City and Municipal Agriculture Offices of Surigao and Malimono.
