LOS ANGELES, Butuan City- Thirty (30) senior citizens from Butuan City completed the Training on Containerized Organic Vegetable Production on May 8-10, 2019. Said training was held at ATI-RTC Caraga, Los Angeles, Butuan City.
This was aimed at enhancing the participants’ knowledge and skills in organic vegetable production through technology promotion. Specifically, this training helped senior citizens to appreciate the importance of organic vegetable production which they could enumerate and explain the cultural management practices for vegetables. At the same time, demonstrate the preparation of organic fertilizer production and soil media preparation and even visit farms practicing organic vegetable production.
Lectures and discussions were delivered by Mr. Eric B. Ancheta, Agricultural Technologist from the City Agriculture Office of Butuan as the resource person. He also demonstrated the preparation of concoction and soil media. Participants also enjoyed doing their hands-on activities. They were able to visit also the farm of Mr. Ruben Ragas, an organic vegetable grower in Cabadbaran City.
OIC-Center Director Samuel L. Calonzo of ATI-Caraga encouraged the participants to share the knowledge and learning they gained from the training. He emphasized that age must not be a hindrance to their willingness to learn and apply new things that could help them individually and as a group.
Ms. Paula Mae A. Creencia, the project officer of the said training, presented the synthesis showing the activities of the three-day training during the closing program. The participants have received their certificates awarded by Mr. Samuel L. Calonzo and Mr. Cesar Berdera, the Admin. Officer of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) (with report from PMA Creencia).
