Senior Citizens love to produce organic vegetables

LOS ANGELES, Butuan City- The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 recently conducting the Training on Containerized Organic Vegetable Production for the Senior Citizens here at ATI-Caraga Training Building, Los Angeles, Butuan City.

Said training aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of the participants in terms of producing organic vegetables. This will serve as an avenue of appreciating agriculture specifically urban gardening even at their senescence.

Around 30 participants comprising Senior Citizens from Butuan City join in the said training.

Ms. Paula Mae A. Creencia, Development Management Officer II of ATI-Caraga explains the health benefits of producing organic vegetables specifically to the elderly.

Heracleo A. Paler, Senior Agriculturist of ATI-Caraga graces the opening program by accommodating participants with a warm welcome. He encourages everyone to continue doing agriculture-related activities so that they will be physically active as always. Age doesn’t matter in farming.

“Even we have no farm, we can still produce organic vegetables using containers in our backyard and taste its freshness without hesitation because it’s chemical-free”. Paler said.

Lectures and discussions on the definitions and benefits of vegetable garden will be delivered by the assigned Resource Persons. Principles of Organic Agriculture will also be taught to the participants. Series of hands-on activities will be conducted such as concoction and soil media preparations.

There will be a farm visit and tour at the Ragas Farm in Brgy. Sanghan, Cabadbaran City, one of the Learning Sites of the ATI venturing organic vegetable production.

The training on organic vegetable production starts on May 8, 2019 and will culminate on the 10th day of May. Ms. Paula Mae A. Creencia served as the Project Officer.
