TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur – A total of forty-two (42) students from Surigao del Sur State University (SDSSU)- Tagbina Campus attended in the “Hands-on Training on Walang Aray sa AI: Artificial Insemination in Pigs”.
This was conducted on April 8-9, 2019 (1st Batch) and April 10-11, 2019 (2nd Batch) at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG), Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.
These 2 batches of training were facilitated by the OPAG’s technical expert on artificial insemination through Catalino M. Segismar, Provincial Livestock Coordinator. He stressed that artificial insemination is a breeding method used to avoid inbreeding which causes poor growth and prone to transfer of diseases.
Marcos M. Quico, Provincial Agriculturist of Surigao del Sur encouraged the students to venture into swine production for them to gain income. “This training was conducted to equip the participants with different skills and techniques in artificial insemination which enable them to help backyard hog raisers increase their production in their respective locality.
The participants underwent lectures on heat detection and semen morphology, demonstration and practicum in semen collection as well as evaluation and processing, and proper handling of boar.
Hands-on training on semen collection, processing, and artificial insemination in pigs highlights the training.
Moreover, participants expressed their appreciations to the resource speakers and to ATI for initiating the said activity.
