ATI tells public to go urban agriculture amid COVID-19

Urban agriculture, urban farming, or urban gardening is the practice of cultivating, processing, and distributing food in or around urban areas.

BUTUAN CITY - In line with Secretary Dar’s call to boost food supply, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) urged city dwellers to practice urban agriculture as the country braces against the continuous spread of COVID-19. It can be recalled that since last month the DA Secretary has been promoting the proper implementation of urban agriculture as part of its Plant, Plant, Plant program to ensure the stability of food supply amid restrictions to curb the spread of the contagion.

By producing their own food, this will ease the need for families to go to crowded public markets and stores to buy food. On the other hand, healthy foods such as vegetables also strengthen one’s immune system to better fight off infections.

On the part of ATI, instead of conducting face-to-face training, it is now intensifying the promotion of its free online course on Urban Gardening. This is a short e-learning course composed only of two modules which can be completed in just a day. It can be accessed via the internet at www.e-extension.gov.ph/elearning.
