LOS ANGELES, Butuan City- Around twenty-five (25) Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) completed the Ten-day Intensive Refresher Course on Vegetable Production on April 11, 2019.

Said training aimed at updating the participants’ knowledge and skills on vegetable production. This would also serve as an avenue to further develop strategic recommendations at the same time implement coaching activities to address challenges in sustainable vegetable production in their respective areas.

Participants comprised focal persons of the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) assigned in vegetable commodity from the different municipalities in Region 13.

Lectures on transformational leadership, basic concepts of Farmers’ Field School (FFS), Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) on vegetable production are among the topics discussed during the training.
Farm demonstrations, field visits, workshops and other activities specifically on the conduct of Agro-Ecosystem Analysis (AESA), insects, pests, and diseases identification were executed.

Ms. Valeriana P. Justo, Entomologist taught participants in identifying insects, pests and diseases in vegetables and its corresponding management through Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

Ms. Ginalyn V. Arbutante from ATI-Caraga discussed effective communication, how to power up presentation, and facilitating skills.

Microteaching conducted on the last day of the training wherein participants presented their assigned topics with constructive criticisms from the panelist, afterward.

Funded by the HVCDP, the refresher course was conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13. This was held at ATI-Caraga Training Hall, Brgy. Los Angeles, Butuan City which runs from April 2-11, 2019.
