Entomologist Valeriana P. Justo teaches AEWs on how to identify insect pests and diseases and its management during the farm visit.
CABADBARAN CITY, Agusan del Norte - The Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) from the different municipalities in Caraga visited Ragas Farm located in Brgy. Sanghan, Cabadbaran City. Said farm visit was conducted for them to perform the Agro-Ecosystem Analysis (AESA) as part of their ten-day intensive training on vegetable production held at the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13.
With Entomologist Valeriana Justo, participants were able to identify the types and classification of insect pests and diseases present in the vegetable farm.
Justo is a retired researcher from University of the Philippine Los Baῆos (UPLB) and one of the speakers during the said training. She also teaches participants on the do’s and don’ts whenever a certain pest or disease present in the vegetable plants.
On the other hand, Mr. Redel Ragas, son of Ruben Ragas gave a short briefing about their 1.7 ha. vegetable farm. This was planted with various vegetables such as eggplants, tomatoes, sili, upo, bittergourd, squash, lady finger, patola, kangkong, melon, atsal and a lot more. In fact, they already have regular customers and deliver their produce in the market. They also have scheduled days on “pick and pay” depending on the cropping season.
Ragas Farm is a newly-established Learning Site of the ATI-Caraga. Mr. Ragas received his certificate as Learning Site Cooperator just last March, 2019. Their farm is now open for those who want to have field exposure and learn more on vegetable production.
