CABAGAN, Isabela - “Spread-out the production of flint corn in the country”. Says ATI Director Alfredo S. Aton during the conduct of the “Training on Production of Flint corn and Processing of Corn Grits for Food” spearheaded by ATI-RTC II on March 18-22, 2019.
The said training involves series of lectures, workshops and field demonstration. Participants were encouraged to strengthen their extension services to farmers after being exposed to production technologies on the flint-type corn. Moreover, they were also updated on the pest and diseases management for the said crop highlighting the use of production facilities.
Recognizing the safety needs of the said crop from farm to table, updates on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) was discussed focusing on mycotoxin. The role of proper milling was given importance during the actual demonstration. On the other hand, Mr. Roynic Y. Aquino of Department of Agriculture-Cagayan Valley Research Center (DA-CVRC) delivered his lecture and practical operation for the milling, packaging and labelling of rice-corn blend, proper handling and storage in the processing area.
All participants laid down their action plan for 2020 activities. As expected they are to conduct trainings on production and processing of the said commodity.
Finally, an agreement was reached to harmonize all activities for corn program across the country which covers corn, cassava and sorghum.
