BUTUAN CITY –The Search for the Regional Rice Achievers Awards for 2018 is underway as the Regional Search Committee recently conducted the evaluation and validation of nominees for the province and municipality/city, Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and Local Farmer Technician (LFT) categories, respectively last January 28 – February 6, 2019.
The Regional Search Committee was spearheaded by the DA-Regional Field Office 13 and composed of the following personnel: Ms. Marissa G. Garces, Regional Rice Program Focal Person, Ms. Isabelita L. Ocampo, Supervising Agriculturist, Mr. Noli G. Orog, Regional Seed Coordinator, Ms. Gerlie B. Antipaso, Agriculturist II, all of DA-RFO 13 and Ms. Violeta T. Laguna, Training Specialist II from the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center 13. Ms. Hazel Colinares, RBO Coordinator served as secretariat.
The Rice Achievers Awards is an annual event conducted by the DA in recognition to the invaluable contributions and excellent performance of farmers and LGU stakeholders in improving rice production. This award is given to top performing provinces, municipalities/cities, Irrigators’ Associations (IAs), Small Water Irrigation Systems Associations (SWISA), AEWs and LFTs through evaluation and validation of interventions, activities and production statistics.
This year’s entries were 17 AEWs from 6 Local Government Units (LGUs) which include Butuan City (5 nominees), RTRomualdez (2) and Kitcharao (2) both of Agusan del Norte, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur (1), Gigaguit , Surigao del Norte (1), and Trento, Agusan del Sur (6). Butuan City submitted one entry under the LFT category.
Moreover, four LGUs were evaluated under the municipality/city category namely Butuan City, Tandag City, Kitcharao and Trento while Surigao del Sur was the sole entry for the provincial category.
The Regional Search Committee will soon commence evaluation and validation of entries for the remaining categories.
Cash prizes await the would-be winners for the 13 individual slots (AEWs and LFT) while LGUs and associations will receive corresponding awards in the form of projects (with reports from VT Laguna and GB Antipaso).
