“From Arms to Farms” Program recipients chronicled, new book to be launched soon

Kauswagan, LANAO DEL NORTE---Since campaigning for a peaceful co-existence and collaboration with the rebel-returnees of Lanao del Norte through farming, the Agricultural Training Institute came up with a move to produce a publication that features the undertaking of the program, “From Arms to Farms: Fostering Peace through Agriculture and Fishery Development in Conflict Areas in the Philippines.” The said program is part of the campaign to promote best practices and encourage other people to venture in agriculture in the country. The program was crafted specifically for the agriculture and fishery development of the conflict areas in the country and also to help provide livelihood to former Muslim rebels as well as indigenous peoples living in remote areas where government services are lacking.

Lead by ATI-RTC X Training Center Superintendent-II Angelito Y. Quirog and From Arms to Farms point person Amenah S. Taratingan on March 19-22, a team of content developers and photographers consisting of Mr. Karl Salibio, Ms. Angelica Umali, Mr. Jayvee Masilang, Ms. RJ Tabinas, Ms. Marianne Antonio, Mr. Vic Thor Palarca and Mr. Clemente Gabion went to identified recipients of the From Arms to Farms program to do some data gathering, coordination and documentation.

Through the Information Services Division (ISD), the publication will cover the lives of the former rebels in war torn areas, primarily in the southern part of the country. It will also feature how agriculture through ATI, broaden their perspectives and way of living. The said publication is a good opportunity to highlight the importance of agriculture in the country.
